July 9

The last couple days have been slower too.  We went to a couple different shops and stores. I finally found a good present for Ryan... (ok 8 good presents for ryan).. I am TOTALLY excited to get home and see if he likes them.. but I can't say what they are yet.  Anyone besides Gina want to guess?
We went to Sarah and Muneers yesterday to eat up all the leftovers from the 4th of july party. They are awesome people- very down-to-earth and friendly.  We played some Dominoes and had a good visit.
On Friday afternoon, we took Naima to visit her daycare. It was really nice and I think she will be very happy there. I even got some ideas for my own daycare.  She slept most of it, so didn't have much of her own reaction.
After that, we went to Microsoft to see Ginas work. We ate lunch at her cafeteria, but I opted out of Buffalo burgers LOL.
Today we walked to Target because I had to buy a brand new suitcase. There was NO way I was fitting one of Ryans gifts into the bags we had... we had to go buy an extra large one to accomodate haha. Oh well, I think it was worth it. Now I have quite a bit ofextra room too and a super big bag for all the rest of my vacations :)
I picked upthe DaVinci Code for the flight home too.

I can't believe I only have a day and a half left here!! It seems unbelievable how fast the time has gone. I am going to miss Gina and the baby a lot... but I will see them again in October and MAYBE even August (I won't count on that one)
I'll be looking forward to Kristas baby later this month/early next month to help me out with my baby-fever too :)

Update on Jumper :)

Here's an update for everyone who's been asking about him... I found this in a newspaper- not quite what us as witnesses thought was going on :)

Man climbs crane to see fireworks

By MARY ANDOM
P-I REPORTER

Call him crazy or just patriotic, or both, but Donald E. Fisher of Seattle apparently wanted to represent the red, white and blue Tuesday afternoon high above Belltown.

Fisher, 42, climbed to the top of a multistory construction crane where, had he been able to remain, he would have had a perfect view of the Elliott Bay fireworks display.

Police and an ambulance were called to the scene as spectators watched in disbelief from the rooftops of their high-rise apartments. Some took photos and videotaped the whole thing.

Seattle Deputy Chief Steve Oleson said appeared to be lucid, and the incident did not appear to be a suicide attempt. "He said he wanted a good view of the fireworks display."

At one point the man shouted to police that he wasn't going to jump.

The crane rocked slightly as Fisher walked back and forth on it effortlessly and at ease, at times hands-free. He proceeded to the edge of the crane, where people thought he was going to jump, but instead he just waved an American flag.

A rescue team with harnesses was sent up the crane to persuade Fisher to climb down. He hesitated at first, but after an hour of negotiating, he shook the hands of rescue team members and was lowered in a harness.

Seattle resident June Kollin, who watched from her rooftop, said she was amazed by his audacity. "I couldn't bear to watch," she said. Kollin said the man appeared to be calm and coherent.

Medics examined the crane climber and gave him a glass of water. At that point, he was arrested, accused of malicious mischief.

"He must have been extremely brave and not afraid of heights; you can't do that inebriated," Kollin said. "He's patriotic."

Cooling off

Not so much happening here the last couple days. Gina is gone back to work so it's just me and le bebe. She misses mommy and would much rather fall asleep with (plug your ears boys) a boob in her mouth... but we are sufficing and she is doing really well to be away from her mom.  Yesterday was the first day I kept her and she slept for almost 5 hours straight, so we hardly had time to go for a walk and Gina was home again :)
Today she was up a bit more... she had a bath, a nap, a walk to target where we bought Ryan a surprise (wink wink)....
Tonight will probably be more scrapbooking. It's good to get it all caught up because when I get home I'll have all my trip pages to do.  I can't believe that the trip is more than half over already... Friday, Sat, Sun, Mon and I travel all day Tuesday...
I will miss Gina and the baby, but it will be nice to get back home into a routine again too.

The weather here is a BIG change from NS... it's soo hot and sticky there and here it is perfect. Almost need a sweater when you go out. I saw the sun my first couple days, but its been clouds the last couple. It's OK, i need a heat-break before I go home :)

4th of July

Well, July 3rd we got back to America and didn't do anything. I worked on catching up my scrapbooking, Gina worked on her baby book and we sort of just lazed around and got rested up from all our Canadian adventures. I finally have managed to switch my body over to this time zone. Got away from the suppertime nap, and can finally sleep past 5 am :) The last couple days I've been waking up at 8 which is normal for me.... Best of luck to me next week when I have to start getting up at 7 again and it feels like 3am though!

4th of July was pretty much what I expected.  We took our time waking up, and then went downtown Seattle to explore. There were a few festivities going on, but mostly things for kids, so we decided to walk back to the car and head over to the party where we would watch the fireworks. It was only 4, so we figured we would be early enough to get good packing.  So, we get to the car and see a ton of firetrucks, police cars, ambulances and the such. It turns out there was a guy who had climbed on a crane and was threatening to kill himself.  We didn't know for sure what was happening until a cop came over to some kids standing beside us and said "Boys, go tell you parents that we don't want you to see this. It's not going to be something you want to see if he does jump" so we knew for sure that that was what was going on. I think I heard him yelling things like "Dive or jump" and he was waving to everyone and stuff... My stomach was turning in knots the whole time, and even though its not something someone gets to see 2 times in a lifetime, i couldn't convince myself that I wanted to be there if he did jump. We stayed for a few minutes to see the outcome, and mediators seemed to be convincing him to go back down, but then a couple minutes later he ran right back out to the end again.... that's when I decided I really had to leave. We left and came back an hour later and he was still up there, so I think by that point its pretty much an attention grab because he would have done it by now if he was going to (I think anyways). (as sadistic as it is, you can see pictures of him in my photo section)

So, then, we did get back to where the party was and after 30 minutes of driving around found some parking.  They were amazing host and hostess and served us a great BBQ and some salads and stuff.  I met a few people who work for Microsoft and overall had a really good time. I even met Delco from CSI Miami.. well, not really, but this guy looked JUST like him and was from Miami too. The fireworks were awesome. There actually is no way to describe them .I have never seen anything like them and we were really close to them too.  They had some that made shapes (happy faces, hearts, and 3d cubes) and some that were like rockets that moved in really slow motion up and down, some that were like super speedy atomic bombs, and a few other effects that I really can't describe. I have never ever seen anything like this show though.

We walked back to the car after. It was about a 30 minute walk in the most uncomfy shoes ever. My feet have blisters everywhere so I was trying to wrap babywipes around them haha. It was almost midnight before we got home, so we got home and hit the pillow right away.

More to come tomorrow!

Farewell to Vancouver

So, it's 5:30 am again and here I am trying to keep busy until the rest of the house wakes up. I am just not adjusting to the time change.
Yesterday was PACKED with sites around the city here.  It's funny, before this trip, I never would have snapped a single picture of scenery. I would take pictures of people, events, and things, but scenery wasn't for me... but this trip already, I must have over 100 pictures of the beaaautiful place that this is. It's really phenomenal and the pictures don't even do it justice.
We started off yesterday with breakfast at "Tommy's" with Rob's sister, Ashleigh, her husband, Andy, and their new baby (2 weels younger than Naima) Peyton.  It was really good and filled me up for most of the day! After that, we took a walk over the suspension bridge and to see a little waterfall there. The bridge was really neat. I guess a lot of people have died there, but we all made it :)  One lady threw/dropped her baby off last year. How depressing. After that, we took a drive up to a provincial park halfway up a mountain where the scenery was awesome. You could get a really good view of the entire city and still see the mountains, and beaches and stuff.  We did a little hike after that. It was called Lighthouse Park. Again beautiful scenery and good to get some exercise :) One thing I love about this city is how pet friendly it is. There are boxes with doggy bags for scooping poop, garbages to put it in, and bowls for dogs to drink from everywhere. They seem to be very accomodating  to dogs. So, we did lighthouse park and  again I couldn't get over the HUGE number of boats in the water at any given time.  After the park, we went to the Horseshoe to get icecream.. I guess its a really well known palce for movies and stuff.  Disturbnig Behaviour with Katie Holmes was filmed there a few years ago. The houses are ENORMOUS and SOOOOOO rich. THe poor people who live in them.
We could hardly move after all the walking around and exploring, so we came home to relax for a while.  We decided on chinese for supper so me and tara went to get it since Gina was wiped and nso was Naima.  We did the Giant Fir hiking trail while we waited and it took longer than we thought but the trees were HUUUUUUUUUUGE. I have never ever seen a tree so big around and sooooo tall. I have lots of pictures of them, but I dont know if they'll do them justice either. After that, we got hte chinese, came home, and tried to watch Must Love Dogs. I made it through a bit of it, but without my evening nap it didn't take long for me to zonk out.

but it doesn't stop there. Apparantly, my night wasn't over when I fell asleep.  Gina told me this morning, that after I was ina dead sleep I started tickling my own arms.. one, then the other... adn then I reached up in the sky and started tickling my arm way up in the air LOL.... ok, maybe its funnier to see than to read.

More updates tomororw!

West Coast

I made it to the west coast with no problems. Landed in Montreal and my next flight was just a few gates away.  Vancouver was a bit trickier, but I did get myself through customs without strip searching and with about 5 minutes to spare before loading. One thing really gets me is why people SIT at the airport. Do they not KNOW that they are about to sit in the worlds most uncomfy chairs with no leg room for the next X amount of hours?!?! I tried my best to stay on my feet when I could.  By the time I arrived in Seattle I was feeling horrid. My back was KILLING me. My head was throbbing, and I had to pee the entire time but didn't want to waken my seat partner who had an eye mask on the whole time to hide the light.
I got there and found a precious girl who refused to look at me the first few minutes, and I found Naima too :P.  We went straight home and ended up staying up half the night talking. I think in all, I was up for 22 hours with 20 minutes of sleep on one plane. I met Ienusah and Ginas roommate soona fter we got home. He looks a lot like Naima.
On Friday, I went shopping in Ginas closet. I got THOUSANDS of dollars worth of clothes that she can't wear anymore. Everything from jackets to shoes. I am really excited because my clothes at home can be spotted in some of my pictures from Jr high. I felt bad leaving her with no clothes and shoes though!!! So we went to Mervyns where she restocked on some outfits... (somehow I think I got the better end of the deal!!! Thanks a lot Gin!!)
On Saturday morning we packed up bright and early and drove to vancouver. My sleep schedule is SOO off kilt that I don't know what is going on in my head now! I caught a little nap in the car (as gina as BEAUTIFUL pictures to prove). We got here and had a little visit with Rob and Tara (Ginas friend from highschool) and then went to dinner at Red Robins. It was possibly the slowest service we have ever had at a restaurant. To start, they hadONE host ONE waiter and ONE cook working... its a BIG restaurant!! The host was REALLY REALLY dumb. Here are a few things she was caught saying:

Host: How many people?
Tara: 3 adults and a baby
Host: sooooo,  4 people?
Tara: I guess, if you count the baby.

Host.... delivers 4 menus to the table... DUHHHHHHHHHH
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Host: How many people sir?
Sir: 5
Host: How many of them are kids?
sir: 3
Host: and how many adults
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Host: Would you like me to bring anything for the baby?
Gina: sure, what do you have?
Host: ummmm, nothing
Gina: Oh ummm
Host: but I can make your table big.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
hahaha here's her sign.
After that we explored vancouver a bit. TOok in all of the canada day sites, took a ride on the seabus, and explored downtown a bit (Jenna- if you're reading this I walked right past EA games and immediately started looking for your bf lol).  We came home at supper time and I had another 2 hour nap.  We went to the beach for the fireworks and I got some phenomenal pictures of what a gorgeous province this is.  I will post some when I manage to get them off the computer. The fireworks were decent, but nothign like Ottawas. I am really expecting big things from the Seattle ones on Tuesday since I've heard that they spend 2nd most to any american city on them.
That about brings me to now. I've been up since 5 trying to keep semi quiet.  Its 7 now and still no noise from anyone else. I'll write another update sometime after we get back to Seattle.
